Bande Mataram - Hail Mother
About the Programme (Click for Programme Flyer)
August 15th,1947 marked the end of the British Raj in India and is a landmark in the history of modern India. In the first half of the evening the audience listened to inspiring, soul-captivating Bengali patriotic songs, which stirred the nation and heralded the new, independent India. In a broader perspective, these songs transcend all national barriers to symbolise the eternal quest for freedom from bondage, fear and oppression. A projected show of visuals with English translations of the songs accompanied the live performance.
In the second half of the programme, there was complementary tasty Indian snacks meal to celebrate this occasion during the interval, followed by an evening of music and colour - a blend of traditional Indian instrumental music, classical and folk-dance.
